Why use the LTI integration

Benefits of adding Process Feedback to your LMS through LTI v1.3

What the LTI integration changes

The LTI v1.3 integration puts Process Feedback inside the LMS assignment, so students write there and the writing process report is attached to the submission.

Process Feedback launching from a learning management system through LTI

With the LTI integration:

  • Students open the writing space directly from the LMS assignment
  • Students sign in through the LMS, with no extra accounts or passwords
  • Each student submission attaches a writing process report

For teachers: nothing to set up or install

To use Process Feedback for an assignment, all a teacher has to do is select Process Feedback as the tool for the assignment. When students open the assignment, they are automatically signed in and ready to write. When students are done, their writing process report is automatically attached to the submission.

In Canvas, for example:

  • SpeedGrader shows the writing process report PDF next to each student's document
  • The dashboard shows the writing process of the whole class in a single table
  • Teachers decide how, or whether, to use the reports

For students: nothing to install or sign in to

Students do not need to install anything or sign in separately. They open the assignment in the LMS and start writing.

While they write, students can:

  • Open their own writing process report at any time
  • Reflect on how they worked
  • Submit to the LMS with one click

Work is auto-saved across devices

If the teacher turns on auto-save for an assignment (the default), students' work is saved every few minutes. Teachers see the work only after students submit it.

This means students can:

  • Start on one device and continue on another
  • Keep their work if the browser closes or a device fails

A term-long view of student engagement

LTI integration also offers a Student Engagement Report for each course. The report shows the effort of the whole class across the whole term.

It helps teachers:

  • See each student's effort, assignment after assignment
  • Notice changing habits, like last-minute work
  • Spot students who struggle consistently

For institutions: no separate student accounts

Students sign in through the LMS, so there are no Process Feedback accounts for the institution to create or manage.

  • Each student writes under their own LMS sign-in, with no separate account to share
  • The LTI launch is automatic, so there is no separate tool for students to remember
