Process Feedback for Microsoft Word

Process Feedback for Microsoft Word is an add-in that opens in a panel next to the document. It records writing activity as the document is written and helps the writer explore how it came together.

Use the add-in in Word for the web — the version of Word that runs in the browser with a Microsoft 365 account. Open Explore Process from the Home tab, and the Process Feedback panel shows the writing process of the document as it is written: snapshots, writing time, and word count.

The same add-in also works in the Word desktop app installed on the computer. Students can write in the version of Word they already use.

The add-in records writing activity locally, on the writer's own device. Nothing is shared automatically — the writer decides what, if anything, to share.

Until the Word add-in launches, students can write in Google Docs with our extension or in our online writing space.
